Past Issue # 9
"The Power of God"
It's time for Efmevi to take on a different tack, to show a different strength to its readership.
The past seven issues have prided themselves on showing Efmevi's ability to question, to be a thought leader, to ask uncomfortable questions, to hold accountable, and to show that we are aware of what's happening. The wool cannot be drawn over our eyes.
The remaining three issues for this year strive to show the might of the other arm: Scriptural understanding and depth. Efmevi is also a striving authority on mining the word of God. Our writing strives to be clear, rooted in Scripture, able to explain and teach, and reveal the voice of God. And this striving is a synergy between our own work and the power of God, or his grace.
It's only fitting then that this month's issue is on the power of God on his people. It's taken from the book Focus on the Coptic Family by Fr. Mikhail E. Mikhail. It refers to the overall theme prevalent in the liturgical reading of the Coptic month of Baba or Paopi. The full sentence he wrote is: "The power of Christ on the souls of man".
How this statement is of extreme relevance right now, especially after the last issue where we explored the future of the Coptic Church. We need the power of God upon us.
But this issue will not explore this social context further. We will go back to the basics... what does Scripture say and show about the power of God upon us? What is the power of Jesus Christ? What happens when our lives do or do not have the power of God? How does the power of God 'work'?
What does a soul or a church look like when the power of God has come upon them?
This issue aims to answer these questions and explicate Scripture in the runup to the Feast of the Incarnation of Christ, his Nativity.
